THE acoustic duo MYMP celebrates their fifth anniversary with a brand new album simply titled Now. It has been two years since Juris and Chin returned to studio recording. How come it took them that long?
We had a change in management. We were in the process of conceptualizing early this year but we never got to sit down since we had to leave for abroad for some shows. When we returned the meetings did not prosper. On our own, we gathered materials we could present to album producers. Ganoon kami palagi. Iniipon namin ang mga materials para meron agad pwedeng pagpilian. Then the turnover in management occurred and we waited hanggang sa maayos ang lahat. It was already July nang simulan naming irecord ang Now, Juris explains.
How would this album differ from the other albums they have recorded?
We were given more freedom to experiment on our sound and the freedom to choose the songs we wanted to feature. After five years in the business ay kabisado na namin ang taste ng mga taong bumibili ng aming plaka. They play a vital role whenever we do a recording. We ask them what they would like to hear and we listen, she adds.
During the presscon , MYMP sang three cuts from the album and Juris rendition of the carrier cut Now proved how much her vocal range has improved. Ang galing palang bumirit ni Juris. She should go solo next time, a writer commented.
Why the inclusion of a Christmas cut entitled Wish List?
We have always wanted to do a Christmas album but it never happened. Since it is already the last quarter of the year, we decided to include an original Christmas song na sa pakiramdam namin ay hindi naman maapektuhan ang concept ng album. Katugunan ito sa mga requests mula sa aming mga supporter, Juris says.
Has the thought of going solo entered her mind?
Honestly, I feel I can deliver more when Chin is around. He has a better understanding of music than I do. He knows my vocal range and limits and he is an all-around musician. His patience and guidance provides security for me. We have gone through difficult times in our career as a group and Chin has never abandoned me. He is like a real brother to me,Juris declares.
With the release of Now, the duo will have mall tour on SM branches in Bicutan (Aug. 30), Taytay (Aug.31) and SM Fairview on Sept. 12. This mall tour is their way of extending thanks for the support and loyalty they get from fans for the past five years.
