Not too many musicians, musical bands, or concert artists/performers have been able to fill up the 3,000-seat Lamberto Macias Sports & Cultural Center but for the soul-acoustic music band MYMP, it was a breeze.
Organized by the FU Alumni Association Inc. headed by Dinno T. Depositario, the MYMP duo of vocalist Juris Fernandez and guitarist Chin Alcantara jampacked the stadium with almost 3,000 screaming fans, including Koreans students.
The Feb. 8 concert was a pre-Valentine treat dubbed Come F.U. Are in Love.
The duo, together with their band, wowed the audience as Juris sang heart-warming radio favorites Especially for You, Crazy for You, Sa Kanya, Get Me, No Ordinary Love, and Magical Feeling.
In an interview with Muffet Villegas on DYFU Greyhound 101, Chin explained they agreed on the name MYMP with stands for Make Your Momma Proud. He said they wanted the youth like them to pay tribute to the mothers who do so much for their children.
Juris explained she chose to pursue a singing career for her sheer love of music even after earning a degree in psychology. The various reviews on her singing rendition have since revolved around the descriptions honest, smooth, and sweet.
Their song A Little Bit bagged the People's Choice Favorite Song in the Awit Awards three years ago. Their recently released albums Beyong Acoustic and Versions were have been warmly accepted by their fans. Versions was recently declared Certified Gold Record after less than a month in the market.
The production and marketing of the concert of the MYMP Live in Dumaguete was headed by Donna Aguilar, director of the FU Alumni Relations office, and Michelle Valencia-Shirley of the Office of Student Life & External Affairs.
The MYMP Concert in Dumaguete was sponsored by Sharman Air / Air Philippines, Globe Telecoms, Teletech, Coco Grande, Airconman, MetroPost, Scooby's, and Shakey's.
